June 2004

Hi Amina!

I finally have some relaxing computer time here, and was surfing around a bit. I am thrilled to see the Giza Club site updated, and featuring so many great events. Had to write and say 'yeah'!

I am having a great time...the family I am living with is wonderful, and have opened up their home to me. I am not doing much dancing, mainly because I am focusing on language and am just really into hanging out with my family here...going to lots of parties, visiting relatives and friends, eating way too much Egyptian food, drinking waay too much Egyptian tea, etc. Of course, being Cairo, dance and music is everywhere, and I am soaking it all up.

I am definitely learning more about Cairo than I ever have on prior trips...due to both the amount of time I am here, the relationships I have made, and the fact that I am not in a hotel. Lots of tales to share!

Actually---you might get a kick out of my travel journal. I posted some notes I sent home to family/friends at www.zakiyya.com/Cairodiary.html.

Hope all is well in SF!

xoxo--Monica
